Further Devolution for Our Area?

West Northamptonshire Councillors will meet on January 9th to decide on their future approach to devolution. The meeting will consider whether to support proposals for a strategic mayoral authority covering the West Northamptonshire area. The authority would provide a stronger say in regional investment and decision-making, potentially leveraging hundreds of millions of pounds in investment.

The decision is whether to should support proposals to progress a strategic mayoral authority with Bedford, Central Bedfordshire, Luton, Milton Keynes and North Northamptonshire. The councils have successfully worked together for many years as part of the Central Area Growth Board, more recently becoming the South Midlands Authorities.
